Question 1

What is medical gas low-voltage wiring?

Accepted Answer

Medical gas low-voltage wiring is the supervised cabling, sensors, relays, and alarm panels that monitor every medical gas and vacuum source in a facility. It's the system that tells your engineering and clinical staff the moment a pressure goes out of range or a source switches over.

Question 2

When is a master alarm required?

Accepted Answer

NFPA 99 5.1.9 requires a master alarm at two locations — typically the engineering / maintenance office and a 24/7 staffed area such as security or the switchboard — for every Level 1 medical gas system. Each master alarm must be supervised and labeled for every gas it monitors.

Question 3

How is an area alarm different from a master alarm?

Accepted Answer

Area alarms monitor pressure inside a specific smoke compartment or care area (OR suite, ICU, NICU, etc.). Master alarms monitor the source equipment for the whole facility. Both are required by NFPA 99 and both must be supervised, audible, and visual.

Question 4

Can you retrofit our old alarm panels to current code?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We regularly replace legacy alarm panels — Ohio Medical, older Beacon Medaes, Tri-Tech — with modern Amico, Beacon, or Powerex equivalents. We reuse existing supervised cabling where possible, terminate properly, and re-commission the entire loop.

Question 5

We have nuisance alarms — can you find the cause?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Nuisance alarms are almost always a failing sensor, a broken supervised loop, a corroded terminal, or a panel programming error. We start with a topology audit, then methodically test each loop and sensor until we find and document the root cause.

Question 6

Do you also do the medical gas verification after the alarm work?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Our ASSE 6030 verifiers handle the post-install verification so the new or modified alarm system is signed off and AHJ-ready in one trip.
