📌 5.1 Category 1 Piped Gas and Vacuum Systems

5.1.1* Applicability

  • 5.1.1.1* These requirements apply to health care facilities requiring Category 1 systems as referenced in Chapter 4.
  • 5.1.1.2* Where the terms medical gas or medical support gas occur, the provisions apply to all piped systems for oxygen, nitrous oxide, medical air, carbon dioxide, helium, nitrogen, instrument air, and their mixtures.
  • 5.1.1.3* Existing systems not in strict compliance may continue operation unless deemed hazardous by the authority having jurisdiction.
  • 5.1.1.4 This chapter applies to new health care facilities as specified by Section 1.3 unless otherwise specified by 5.1.1.5.
